New Year’s Resolutions: everyone makes one, but how many of us ACTUALLY stick to what we said we would do? The adrenaline of the first few weeks helps us make it to the gym every morning, cut out the sweets, and only allow ourselves to eat out once a week. Around the 20th of January, however, the excitement tends to wear off and we’re back to skipping the gym for a bagel and Frappuccino instead. So what’s the point? If we’re all just going to give up on our resolutions within the first month of the New Year, why make one in the first place? Well I say let’s still make a New Year’s resolution, but make it an attainable one. A lot of the time, we tend to make an unsustainable resolution, like giving up a dessert. Who is actually going to give up dessert for good? Instead, make your resolution to reach for healthier desserts, like a piece of dark chocolate, which is high in antioxidants, or a bowl of ripe fresh mango to satisfy that sweet tooth. Another popular resolution is joining the gym. I think this is a great idea, however, don’t set you goal to be to make it to the gym everyday. There are going to be some days when you just can’t get to the gym and that’s okay. A better resolution is to do something active everyday, whether that be going to the gym, a walk around your neighborhood, or a little yoga before bed. This is a much more attainable goal, and something a lot easier to stick with.
And something almost EVERYONE sets as their New Years resolution is to eat healthier. Especially after the holiday season, and the unavoidable holiday fluff, we have a lot of motivation to go for the carrots and hummus instead of the chips and French onion dip. Eating healthier is something that everyone can do, but it’s a good idea to start small before changing your entire lifestyle because it can be a little overwhelming. If you’re someone who eats relatively unhealthy and are looking to completely change your eating habits, it may be too drastic of a change and you may find yourself reverting back to your old habits. What I would recommend is adding a daily Groothie into your diet. Maybe you make one for breakfast every morning, or an afternoon snack! Adding a green smoothie is a great way to implement a nutritious drink into your diet. Not only will you be getting a great dose of greens, but fruits as well! Once you start to feel the benefits of a daily Groothie, you’ll be more likely to want to add more delicious healthy foods into your diet as well.
